You can hear that websites are mobile friendly, or are optimised for a tablet, and this is usually when we can hear that magical “responsive” phrase.
But what does it mean?
A website is considered to be responsive when it looks good and formats itself depending on what kind of gadget it is opened with, it understands and adjusts itself based on what it is viewed with. A website optimised for mobile devices, for instance, will only look good on a mobile device, and will fall to pieces if viewe don a tablet. A responsive website, in contrast, will look good and respond to the device itself, and will be user friendly on any device.
